Private Counsel - Kate Smith Jamison

Private Counsel

Every year I work with a small number of people whose decisions and timing matter well beyond themselves, whether what they hold is an organisation, a venture, a team or a household. There is no programme and no modules. There is a steady rhythm of contact with an advisor who can see the whole picture objectively and discern what matters most in it, so that when a decision is close, when something is ending or beginning, or when a season turns difficult, you have somewhere to think it through.

Timing is a large part of it. When to forge ahead, when to wait, and when the waiting is itself preparation. Where the headwinds are and how long they last, and where there is natural lift. Where the blind spots might be. When to commit everything, and when the answer is not yet. It can be about what you are working towards, the venture or the life you can already see, and finding a way to reach it that doesn't cost you what you already have. It can be about sustaining what you have worked hard to reach, or holding steady when several things come at once. And underneath all of it, the daily practices, inner and outer, that let you expand from an anchored place rather than an exhausted one, and see yourself clearly enough that your own gifts and tendencies work for you rather than against you.

Nothing is out of scope: your health, your home and relationships, your work and ventures, and how you keep yourself steady inside all of it. Nor is it only about you. It can take in the people you love and lead, a partner, a child, the people whose lives are bound up with yours.

Private Counsel begins with a conversation, so that we both know it's right before we go any further. Everything shared stays between us, formalised in writing where that's needed. Fees are discussed once we've spoken.

Before this work I spent twenty years in financial markets, fourteen of them at Goldman Sachs.
